Year 6 trip to JORVIK Viking Centre - Autumn 25
Year 6 have visited JORVIK Viking Centre in York — and what an immersive day it was! As soon as they stepped inside, they travelled back in time to Viking-Age York:
exploring excavated remains of the original settlement, then boarding the Centre’s famous ride where lifelike Viking-age streets, homes, markets and daily life were brought vividly to life with sights, sounds and even smells! The trip was made even richer by a stop at DIG where they stepped into the shoes of trainee archaeologists. Here, they underwent “archaeological training” — learning which types of materials survive over time and how finds from different periods are identified, giving them a fascinating insight into how archaeologists piece together clues from the ground to build a picture of life in the past — complementing what they saw in the Viking-era displays at JORVIK.
Year 4 trip to Chester - Autumn term 25
Year 4 had an unforgettable day out in Chester visiting Deva Roman Experience — a journey that transported them back nearly 2,000 years to life as Roman soldiers in the fortress of Deva Victrix. Led by a real “Roman soldier”, the children explored reconstructed Roman streets, bath-house, barracks, amphitheatre and marketplace, discovering how people lived, worked and defended the fort. The visit certainly gave the children a vivid, memorable understanding of Roman Britain that we hope will stay with them long after they returned to school.
Year 3 trip to Tatton Park - Autumn 25
As part of Year 3’s history learning, the children enjoyed an exciting trip to Tatton Park, where they had a hands-on journey into early human history, exploring what life was really like in the Stone Age and beyond — from how people lived and worked to how their communities changed over time. They also learned how historians and archaeologists piece together the past using artefacts and other clues left by prehistoric people. The trip came alive the moment they stepped outside the classroom and gave them a real sense of how our ancestors lived, worked, and survived.
Year 6 trip to Blackpool - July 25
To celebrate all of their hard work over the past few months the year six pupils went on a day out to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Everyone had great fun and it did not rain!
Great Horizons Celebration Event - July 25
On Tuesday 1st July, renowned physicist and broadcaster Professor Brian Cox visited Oldham to share his expertise at the ‘Great Horizons’ celebration event, which brought together science teachers and leaders from across the borough. Attended by Miss Hilton and Mr Nokes, the event aimed to inspire and support educators from early years through to further education as part of Oldham’s wider strategy to retain exceptional teaching talent. Professor Cox’s keynote speech offered a powerful reminder of the importance of STEM education and the vital role teachers play in shaping future generations. The evening also provided valuable opportunities for educators and professionals to connect, collaborate, and strengthen links between education and industry to boost STEM skills and career pathways in Oldham.
Year 1 trip to Blackpool Zoo - June 25
In June this year the Year 1 classes went to BlackpoolZoo. Here we are watching the Sealion show!
Reception's trip to Imagine That - May 2025
In May the Reception class visited Imagine That in Liverpool. They had a fun filled day of exploring the multi sensory activities and participating in science based activities. Our favourite part of the day was the slime workshop and making snow!
These Chips Can Book Launch
Some year 6's attended the book launch for 'These chips can' which is all about the history of the microchip and how Oldham has changed over the years. The children met author Jules Pottle and illustrator.
They all enjoyed it. Oliver H absolutely loved it and has spoken about it for ages after. He has read the book again and again.
Year 6 Residential Visit to Robinwood
In June our year 6's visited Robinwood Activity Centre for their residential weekend. There were lots of teamwork activities including archery, canoeing and raft building. This involved putting trust in our friends and the groups we were working with. We all had a great time working as a team!
