The Department for Education’s DBV in SEND programme aims to support local authorities and their partners (schools) to improve delivery of SEND services for children and young people whilst working towards financial sustainability.
 

In September 2025 Hodge Clough began work as part of the Delivering Better Value project. The project is run by the Mental Health in Education Team for Oldham and our allocated link worker is Sarah Farnbank Harrop.

 

At the start of the academic year and as part of our Inset training, all staff have received training over the academic year on "Behaviour as Communication" as well as training on the "The Assault Cycle and it's impact on children." 

 

Our behaviour policy has been reviewed and is now based on a more relational approach. Both staff and pupils contributed towards reviewing the the policy. 

 

Over the year staff have engaged with Social and Emotional Health surgeries with Sarah where support and strategies for children with SEMH needs have been identified and implemented. 

 

We have held a successful Parent Voice event in March 2025 where parents and staff came together to identify what we are doing well as a school and things we can do to improve. 

 

In June 2025 staff from school and parents attended a workshop on Supporting Behaviour at POINT in Chadderton. 

 

Impact so far

* The new behaviour policy is up and running. Three months after it's inital introductionit was reviewed by staff and pupils. Amendments were made and implemented. 

* Enhanced communication between school and home. Parent voice is valued and acted upon. 

*Staff have been upskilled to support children's needs through the development of a list of non negotiables across school. .
