Maths at HCP
At Hodge Clough Primary we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme (WRM) which provides small steps in learning to encourage success and full coverage of the National Curriculum. White Rose Maths is well sequenced and encourages children to develop a depth of knowledge over time through practise, questioning, reviewing learning, modelling and making links between learning. It follows the CPA approach (concrete, pictorial, abstract) to help understanding, build competency and to make connections between different representations. A high level of mathematical language and questioning is used to develop children’s own explanations and mathematical thinking. For more information on our Maths curriculum please contact our Maths Coordinator Stephen Cresswell.

Learning by Questions | LbQ Primary Year 6 only
To assess progression, we use Maths.co.uk. We also use White Rose pre and post assessments for each maths topic. This allows us to monitor children’s progress and gaps in learning that need addressing.
