What a busy Autumn term we had! At the start of the term the children settled into school life and enjoyed getting to know one another through our ‘All About Me’ topic. In Autumn 2 we learned about ‘People Who Help Us’, focusing primarily on medical professionals, firefighters and the police. The children were able to make links between their new learning as they shared their own knowledge and experiences of each profession. The topic also provided lots of opportunities for role-play – there may be a few future doctors in the classroom!

We also learned about key events as they arose, such Bonfire Night where the children liked hearing about each other’s experiences, sharing what we had each seen and heard. Our continuous provision reflected the events and so we relished lots of mark-making opportunities along with bonfire craft and creating our own fireworks using the playdough! 

We talked about Remembrance Day, discussing what the poppy represents. We talked about how this was a special time in which people think about soldiers past and present and take a moment to say ‘thank you’ to them. To support this the children carefully painted poppies, listening to and following instructions step-by-step – they created some beautiful work!

It became all things spotty in Nursery to mark Children in Need! We had a discussion as a class about what the day meant and how our money was going to help other children in lots of different ways. In the provision we developed our fine motor skills by tweezing the pom poms onto Pudsey’s bandana and also finger painting in another activity. We then carefully made and decorated our own spotty biscuits (which we of course then had to sample!)
