Year 1 have had a fantastic and busy half term, full of exciting learning and memorable experiences across the curriculum.

In Science, the children explored seasonal changes, focusing on the transition from Autumn to Winter. They learned about the months of the year and identified key features of each season, using observation and discussion to deepen their understanding.

In History, the children enjoyed learning about toys from the past. They spoke to their grown-ups about the toys they played with and compared them to toys today. A particular focus was on how teddy bears have changed over time, helping the children understand the concept of past and present.

In Maths, we explored addition and subtraction within 10. The children used practical resources to build number sentences and developed their understanding through part–whole models, which helped them solve addition and subtraction problems with confidence.

In English, the children focused on nouns, adjectives, and using full stops correctly. We read the traditional tales The Little Red Hen and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, using them as inspiration for our writing. The term finished with the children proudly creating their own retell of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Alongside classroom learning, the children took part in a range of enriching whole-school activities, including Anti-Bullying Week, Remembrance Day, and our Starbooks Author Day, where we explored the work of Michael Rosen.
