Welcome to Year 2 2025/26
Year 2 is a very special year in our school journey – a time when children grow in confidence, independence and curiosity. We encourage children to explore, ask questions, and take pride in their learning.
In Year 2, children develop important skills in reading, writing and mathematics, but just as importantly, they learn how to work together, support one another, and celebrate each other’s successes. We nurture creativity through exciting projects, hands-on experiences and opportunities to discover the world around us.
This year is also a milestone as children transition to our Conduit Street school building. Moving to a new environment gives them the chance to embrace fresh routines, enjoy new facilities, and take the next step towards becoming confident, independent learners.
Being part of Year 2 means joining a caring community where every child is valued and encouraged to shine. By the end of the year, children are not only well-prepared for the next stage of their learning, but they also carry with them a strong sense of achievement, resilience and joy in learning – ready to begin their exciting journey into Key Stage 2.

We will become explorers of our capital city. We’ll discover the geography of London and the UK by learning about famous landmarks, and spotting the differences between physical and human features.
In History this half term, Year 2 will explore the topic “What is a monarch?”. We will learn about famous kings and queens, including William the Conqueror and King Charles III, and how their reigns shaped Britain. We'll also discover how castles developed over time and how the idea of monarchy has changed through history.
Using The Bog Baby and Grandad’s Island as our core texts, we will develop a range of writing skills. Inspired by The Bog Baby, we will create our own imaginative narratives and clear sets of instructions. Through Grandad’s Island, we will explore storytelling further while also producing informative texts, strengthening both our creative and factual writing skills.
