History – Anglo-Saxons 
In History, Year 5 have been exploring life in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Pupils have discovered who the Anglo-Saxons were, where they came from and how they lived, learning about village life, beliefs, laws and invasions. They have also studied the discovery of Sutton Hoo, using this important archaeological find to learn more about Anglo-Saxon kingship, craftsmanship and beliefs. Through engaging discussions and historical enquiry, children have begun to understand how this period shaped Britain’s history 

Writing – Narrative from the Pea’s Perspective 
In English, Year 5 have been developing their creative writing skills by retelling The Princess and the Pea from the pea’s point of view. Pupils have used fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and reported speech to add detail and interest to their writing. By exploring character, emotion and viewpoint, children have created imaginative narratives using descriptive language, varied sentence structures and rich vocabulary to bring an unusual perspective to life. 

Maths – Fractions 
In Maths, Year 5 have been building their understanding of fractions. Children have learned to identify, compare and order fractions, as well as find equivalent fractions. Practical resources and problem-solving activities have helped pupils deepen their confidence and reasoning skills. 

Reading – A Christmas Carol 
During reading lessons, Year 5 have been studying A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Pupils have explored characters, themes and Victorian settings, developing their comprehension skills through discussion, inference and analysis. The class has enjoyed delving into Dickens’ rich language and the powerful message of kindness and redemption.
