Science Curriculum Intent
At Hodge Clough, we want our children to be naturally curious about the world around them. We want to embrace their sense of wonder and to guide them into becoming enquiry-based learners.
The science in our school is about developing children’s ideas and ways of working that enable them to make sense of the world in which they live. We want our children to develop an understanding of Science, how it has changed and shaped our lives and how important it is to their future.
The Science National Curriculum has three main aims:
•develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
•develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science
enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
•children are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future

A lot of science is taught through the five different types of enquiry. These are:
- Observations
- Pattern seeking
- Identifying, classifying and grouping
- Comparative and fair testing
- Research using secondary sources
